Luke Donald has bridged the two as the current European Ryder Cup-winning captain and former World Number 1.
With meticulous planning and leadership, Luke captained the European Ryder Cup team to a stunning victory in Rome in 2023. As a result, he was appointed captain again in 2025. He will seek to become the second Ryder Cup captain to win back-to-back tournaments.

Despite many believing he didn’t have the ‘power’ to rise to the top of golf, Luke was World Number 1 for a cumulative total of 56 weeks. He featured in the World Top Ten for over 200 weeks.
Furthermore, he was the first golfer to top the PGA Tour and European Tour money lists in the same year. He was also the first Englishman to be named PGA Player of the Year.
As a player in the European Ryder Cup team, Luke represented Europe four times, being part of the winning team on all four occasions. He led from the front in the final day singles at the ‘Miracle of Medinah’ in 2012, which many describe as one of the greatest sporting comebacks.
