Karren Brady CBE has been granted the title of Baroness Brady of Knightsbridge.
Already a CBE for services to ‘Entrepreneurship and Women in Business’, Karren’s new title is a life peerage to the House of Lords.
The word ‘Baron’ comes from ‘French Baron’, presumably from Frankish Baro meaning “freeman, warrior”; it merged with cognate Old English Beorn meaning “warrior, nobleman”. A female of Baronial rank has the honorific Baroness.
William the Conqueror introduced “Baron” as a rank into England to distinguish the men who had pledged their loyalty to him.
Over the past 25 years, Karren Brady has worked her way up from trainee at Saatchi & Saatchi to the position of Vice-Chairman at West Ham United Football Club, and is now recognised as one of the UK’s most powerful female business leaders.
Baroness Brady’s current positions include:
- Vice-Chairman of West Ham FC.
- Senior Non-Executive Director of Syco.
- Senior Non-Executive Director of Arcadia.
- Small Business Ambassador for the Conservative Party.
Aside from Baroness Brady’s business commitments and ‘The Apprentice’ television commitments, she remains as one of the UK’s leading Motivational Speakers.
